Call for teaching for the academic year 2026/27

Applications up to 8 hours per semester are possible. Courses like BM1 PS Einführung in das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, BM2 PS Newer critical perspectives, BM3 PS Reading anthropological texts or BM4 PS zum wissenschaftlichen Schreiben in der KSA are courses recommended for persons with little teaching experience.

Conditions for the application

All legal obligations of UG 2002, the statutes of University of Vienna as well as the curricula must be met when taking a course.

In addition we expect

  • Coordination of the course content and determination of assessment (modalities of certificate acquisition) with the SPL and all teachers involved in parallel courses
  • Willingness to cooperate with SPL, “Studienkonferenz” and other teachers
  • Conducting all examination dates for lectures

Chain contract

We would also like to point out that external teaching is credited for the duration of the chain contract. Please take this into account when applying.

The application must be submitted by e-mail to bewerbung.ksa@univie.ac.at.

The deadline for applications as well as the announcement of Venia courses is 31.03.2026 (date of the e-mail). Applications received too late will not be considered without exception

The following documents are required:

  1. Course title with disposition (Aims, contents and method of the course etc., max. 3.000 characters incl. spaces) (not needed for PS, FP, Bachelor's Thesis). Please indicate the semester when you want to teach the course. Multiple entries are possible. Please write all desired courses in one PDF.
  2. Letter of motivation (max. 3.000 characters incl. spaces and only for first applications)
  3. CV

To facilitate administration, create for each of the three areas a separate PDF and name them “LV-last name”, “Motivationsschreiben_last name” and “Lebenslauf_last name” (z.B. LV_Huber, Motivationsschreiben_Huber, Lebenslauf_Huber).

An application contains max. three attachments.

BM5 SE Ethnographic Reading
Seminar on selected ethnographic texts and their theoretical positions within a thematic focus area, in which students develop an in-depth understanding of ethnographic argumentation through shared critical reading of ethnographic monographs and analytically relate empirical material and theory.

BM6 VO Regional Perspectives
Introductory overview lecture on anthropological perspectives on a specific region, focusing on key ethnographic works and broader disciplinary debates; not a regionally specialised lecture.

BM7 VO Central Fields of Research
Overview lecture on a central thematic research field or sub-discipline of anthropology, introducing key questions, core theoretical approaches, and key ethnographic works.

BM7 SE Central Fields of Research
Seminar on a specific thematic research field in anthropology, in which students engage in in-depth analysis and discussion of key questions based on selected ethnographic and theoretical texts.

BM7 Research-based Seminar on a Specific Field of Research
Seminar in a specific thematic research field in anthropology, focusing on the integration of theory and empirical research and based either on students’ own research or on an ongoing research project; it builds conceptually on a previously completed thematically related BM7 lecture course.
