Master's thesis and supervision

The master's thesis is an independent scientific work that is theoretically and methodologically located in the framework of Social and Cultural Anthropology. The length is approximately 100 text pages of 2,500 characters each and the amount of work, excluding preparatory work, corresponds to one semester of full-time study.
In the MA CREOLE, the topic of the master's thesis needs to be placed within the chosen thematic modules.

According to § 14 of the Statutes of the University of Vienna, students are entitled to request a university lecturer with authorization to teach to supervise their master's thesis. However, there is no legal claim to supervision by a person without authorization to teach and/or to a specific topic.

Title, author and supervisor

Other persons habilitated in Social and Cultural Anthropology can be consulted for supervision after personal direct contact.
The supervision of master's theses can also be taken over by experienced persons with a doctorate, provided that they are qualified in terms of content in the corresponding subject area and are in a valid employment relationship with the University of Vienna. The director of studies (SPL) is responsible for approval (form: Bekanntgabe Thema und Betreuung der Masterarbeit).

Registration of master's thesis and supervision

For the registration of your master's thesis fill out the two pages of the form Meldung Thema und Betreuung der MA-Arbeit & Regeln der guten wiss. Praxis let your supervisor sign on the first page and hand it in together with a short description of around 1-2, max. 5, pages and send it per e-mail to Rita Gratzer or hand in at the Infocenter.
